HI

My name is Signe. I live in the north of the Netherlands where I create works that give you glimpse into another world filled with dappled sunlight and looming shadows.

artist statement

I  immerse myself in the dual worlds of equine companionship and creative expression.

Drawing from a background in theatredesign, my artistic journey is a tapestry of myth and narrative.  Each piece I create is a snapshot in time, a moment suspended in existence, inviting viewers to embark on their own interpretative odyssey through the realms of our imagination.

My work is steeped from a rich tapestry of stories, history, and culture, with a particular affinity for the folklore of Scandinavian and Anglo Saxon traditions. Central to my artistic journey is the concept of 'inbetweenness'-the liminal spaces where transitions blur the boundaries between light and darkness, life and afterlife, humanity and nature. The Dutch term 'schemering,' encompasses this the best. I admire the state of horses who effortlessly navigate that fluidity of the present moment, forever suspended between what happened a moment ago and what will happen next.

Through my art, I hope to evoke a sense of wonder and curiosity, inviting viewers to embark on a journey of introspection. Whether through my imaginative illustrations or naive paintings, I aspire to ignite imaginings, pulling those who engage with my work, into my artistic view of the world.
