BRIEVEN VAN TANTE THEE
Selfpublished project through crowdfunding. "Letters from Auntie Tea"is a lovely box containing twelve A5 illustrations accompanied by a letter and four illustrated affirmation cards. For now it`s only available in Dutch.
It all started with one illustration I made in 2022, followed by two others with a similar composition. The pad with A3 paper contained 12 sheets and I had enough inpiration to create 12 illustrations. .

how it began

After the illustratons were done I started writing text, letters to be precise. While I wrote, I recalled the correspondance I had with my father who lived in England. We wrote in Tolkien`s Elfish and sometimes in runes. I kept those letters in a tattered envelop. I was a teenager writing about teenage things, jumping from one subject to another.
These letters where the inpiration for the "Letters from Auntie Tea." A fictive silly auntie who travels the world and has adventures than keep you guessing whether they are true or imagined by her..
Thanks to crowdfunding I managed to have a small run printed bij a local printer. On july 11th 2025 I handed the first copy to my mom. We had spend the day folding letters, adding the illustrations and cards in the envelopes, tying them with a handcut ribbon, folding and glueing the boxes and tying them with not one but two elastic bands.

There were a lot of people who cheered me on and supported me through donations and my gratitude goed out to them all.

why?
This project celebrates my inner child. The young girl born in 1974 and loved horses and wanted to travel the world. The girl who loves books and had a filosophical view of the world, even though she didn't know what filosophy was. She could spend hours crafting and drawing in her room, dreaming of going to Art School.
I am proud to say I never lost her and race my nieces to the playground or skip across the white stripes of a zebra crossing.
So that`s what I wish this project to accomplish. Connecting with a child and wonder about the small and big things in life. The letters will help you see the world through the eyes of a kid again. And together you`ll discover new words, find details in the illustrations en stop to think about a short sentence, an affirmation, that holds a promise to yourself for the day.
I am looking for a publisher to collaborate with for an English translation and a larger edition. Cause every home needs and Auntie Tea.

Iedere envelop feestje.
